WASHINGTO N – A fringe political consultant loyal to Donald Trump throughout his precipitous political rise will join his team of senior policy advisers at the White House, the president-elect’s transition team announced this week.
Stephen Miller, a veteran of former congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s camp, Alabama Sen.
Jeff Sessions’s office and the Tea Party team that unseated Rep. Eric Cantor, has reinforced Trump’s nativist instincts for months by his side, enthusiastically stumping for the Republican candidate during the campaign and reinforcing his promise to erect a wall on America’s border with Mexico.
Miller helped develop Trump’s policies on his vision for defeating Islamic extremism, sharpening his plan to suspend immigration and visa issuance from nations struggling especially with terrorism.
His appointment has been praised by Ann Coulter, who, like Miller, has fought against multiculturalism in all of its forms.
Miller is Jewish, but he criticizes what he calls a “war on Christmas” from America’s media and political elite on what he views as the nation’s origins. Early on in life, beginning in high school, he was writing of his developing views opposed to contraception and homosexuality.
Miller was the primary writer behind Trump’s speech to the Republican National Convention in July – an address that drew headlines of a dark vision outlined by the GOP nominee. The remarks declared that “Americanism, not globalism, would be our credo” under a Trump presidency.
“We must abandon the failed policy of nation building and regime change that Hillary Clinton pushed in Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Syria. Instead, we must work with all of our allies who share our goal of destroying ISIS and stamping out Islamic terror,” the speech read.
“This includes working with our greatest ally in the region, the State of Israel,” he said, adding: “Lastly, we must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place.”
