By JPOST.COM STAFFA German engineer was arrested in Lebanon Tuesday on suspicion of espionage in the country's latest attempt to root out alleged Israeli spies, Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar reported.The suspected spy, reportedly named Manfred Peter Mog, was employed at a cheese factory in the Bekaa valley in eastern Lebanon, were he was in charge of machine maintenance. The suspect was accused of aiding Israel with the help of employees at state-owned mobile telecom company Alfa, which has seen a series of arrests within its ranks. The arrest campaign that began in April of 2009 has seen more than 70people taken into custody. The arrests began when a Lebanese general and two Lebanesecolonels were arrested on espionage charges. A third colonel isbelieved to have escaped to Israel.The detained colonels and other suspects are accused of working withIsrael in the assassination of top Hizbullah commander Ghalib Awali in2004.
