Yair Netanyahu, son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, harshly attacked former Likud minister Gideon Sa’ar following the latter’s comments on Channel 20 that he would support Netanyahu in the upcoming elections.“We will all work to form the government,” Sa’ar, who is running on the Likud Party list in the upcoming elections, said in an interview.“Nonsense,” responded Yair Netanyahu in a post on social media on Thursday. “He is a leftist. We saw how this worked out with [Ehud] Olmert and [Moshe] “Bogie” Ya’alon. The minute Sa’ar will be in a position of power, he’ll say, ‘Things look different from here.’”In an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Sa’ar expressed traditionally right-wing positions, including his opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state, which he called “suicide” and said that Trump’s unorthodox positions on the Middle East present an opportunity. He also warned of the danger posed by Iranian entrenchment in Syria.Sa’ar took issue with the term “two-state solution,” saying “it’s not a solution.... if there is a formula that has failed for 80 years since the Peel Commission, it’s the so-called two states.“There are enough failed states in the Middle East. There’s no reason to create another mini-state that clearly won’t be sustainable and will quickly turn into a third terrorist neighbor in addition to Hamas and Hezbollah,” he said.Yair Netanyahu also claimed that Sa’ar’s wife, former news anchor Geula Even-Sa’ar, is a supporter of the Left.“If the woman is a leftist,” he wrote, “her husband is also leftist inside,” he said. “It’s no coincidence that the leftist media builds Sa’ar up and hides things about his past.”Sa’ar was accused earlier this year by the prime minister of conspiring with President Reuven Rivlin to be appointed if Netanyahu is indicted on corruption charges. Sa’ar and Rivlin both denied the charges.
