After 21 years, murderer of Derek Roth released from jail

21 years after the murder of taxi driver Derek Roth, his killer Arbel Aloni was released from jail on Wednesday.Aloni, who along with his friend Moshe Ben Ivgi, murdered Roth in cold blood on January 9, 1994 when they were 14 years old. The two youths got into Roth's taxi in Herzliya Pituach and shot him in the back six times.Both teens were sentenced to 16 years in prison and were rearrested in 1998, after they committed a violent armed robbery of a Herzliya kiosk during a furlough.Aloni had previously served out his sentence for Roth's murder, but was rearrested for credit card fraud in May of last year.Ben Ivgi is currently serving the duration of his sentence and is stated to be released in three years.Ben Hartman contributed to this report.
