One injured in ramming attack in Beersheba

The suspect, a resident of Rahat, recorded himself days prior to going to the police station to complain about threats from someone else who said that "Bedouins should get out of Beersheba."

An 18-year-old man was taken to Soroka-University Medical Center in Beersheba after being run over by a vehicle in the southern city on Thursday in a car-ramming attack.

Israel Police confirmed on Thursday that the ramming had been motivated by terror and that the suspect will be investigated on the charge of attempted murder with a motivation of terror.

The victim suffered limb injuries and is in moderate condition, a Soroka spokesperson said.

United Hatzalah volunteers treated the man at the scene after the incident, the medical organization said.

“The injured person was a pedestrian who was struck by a moving vehicle. We treated him at the scene of the incident after he suffered severe injuries to his limbs as a result of being struck by the vehicle. After receiving initial treatment he was taken to Soroka Hospital for further treatment and care,” United Hatzalah volunteers Shmuel Tweel and Zeevi Scheinein said. The two were also among the first to arrive at the scene.

Police investigation

Police are investigating the incident. The suspect said he lost control of the vehicle and that “it was an accident,” Ynet reported.

The suspect, a resident of Rahat, recorded himself days earlier going to a police station to complain about threats from a person who reportedly said, “Bedouin should get out of Beersheba,” the report added.

“If you respect us, we will respect you. If you do not respect us, you will suffer,” the suspect claimed the person said.

“Everyone should take care of themselves. No one should wait if they received threats like I did. No one should wait for the police.”
