Four people, including two toddlers, were killed in a car crash on Highway 234 at the Urim junction near the Gaza strip in southern Israel on Monday. An additional two people were wounded, Israeli first responders said.
The four killed were all Bedouin and were members of the same family. A woman around the age of 30 was pulled out of the same car seriously injured but alive, Ynet reported. An additional person suffered light injuries in the accident. The injured were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
"This is a very serious accident, we saw vehicles overturned on the side of the road and in one of the vehicles, five injured people were trapped, 2 toddlers aged three and a year and a half respectively, and a man and a woman in their 40s were without signs of life and after the rescue we had to determine their death," according to senior Magen David Adom paramedics Eden Milman and Shimon Maman.
"A woman in her 30s who was trapped in the back of the vehicle was fully conscious and seriously injured, she was treated on the spot and taken to the hospital by an MDA helicopter. Another injured person was treated on the spot and taken to the hospital with light injuries."
Highway 234 was closed to traffic in both directions following the accident and Israel Police officers were on the scene directing the traffic.
More deadly accidents
Two women in their 30s were killed in a car accident involving a bus and a private vehicle on Highway 446 near the settlement of Nili in the northern West Bank. The Magen David Adom team that arrived at the scene could only determine their deaths.
"This is a very serious accident between a bus and a private car," said Magen David Adom medic Natan Rutter. "The two injured who were trapped in the vehicle were unconscious. We performed medical tests on them but they were without a pulse and not breathing and after the rescue operations of the firefighters we had to determine their death. The 15 bus passengers were checked on the spot by MDA teams and did not need to be evacuated to the hospital."
An 8-year-old boy was seriously injured after being hit by a car on Harim Street in Eilat and evacuated to the hospital, Israel Police Spokesperson's Unit reported.
