The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will be analysing the DNA found in a pair of gloves near the house of Nancy Guthier, who has been missing ever since she was last seen on January 31, using the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), the agency revealed on Monday.

The system is a national DNA database managed by the FBI that contains profiles from offenders and crime scenes to assist in investigations.

The investigation could make a key breakthrough if the DNA on the gloves matches a person or a crime scene in the database.

Currently, CODIS holds profiles for over 19 million offenders, has produced more than 781,492 hits, and has helped solve more than 758,449 investigations since November 2025, according to FBI data.

FBI's possible use of genealogy sites to find Guthrie

Another NewsNation report revealed that the bureau may be using genealogy sites to identify the owner of the gloves.

“I suspect they are doing parallel analyses right now in order to not waste any time,” CeCe Moore, a DNA expert, told NewsNation.

A separate report by Reuters explained that the family of Guthrie had been ruled out as possible suspects in a kidnapping scheme, after being cooperative and gracious as authorities investigated the kidnapping.

Nancy Guthrie's family has been cleared as possible suspects in her abduction, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said on Monday.

"To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, but it is also cruel," he said in a statement. "The Guthrie family is victims plain and simple."
