A 66-year-old mohel from Bnei Brak was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing death by negligence after an infant died approximately two weeks after the man conducted a circumcision

The circumcision took place on March 4, and the baby was brought to a family doctor a few days afterward. The doctor immediately referred him to the emergency room, where the infant's death was confirmed.

A week after the infant’s death, following the shiva period, a complaint was filed with the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan Police Station, where an investigation was opened.

After finding evidence supporting a reasonable suspicion of the man’s involvement, police investigators arrested and detained him, the police announced in a statement.

He will be brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning, where the police will request an extension of his detention.

Previous allegations made against man

The mohel is well-known in Bnei Brak, having performed thousands of circumcisions and worked there for over 40 years.

Sources familiar with the matter have said that previous allegations were made against him regarding medical complications following circumcisions he performed in the past.

Additionally, it is claimed that complaints on the matter were forwarded to officials in both the Health Ministry and the Chief Rabbinate, but no action was taken, and he was allowed to continue his work.
