The police arrested the two: a 40-year-old cleaner and her 17-year-old daughter, who were suspected of writing the hateful statement.
Since the October 7 massacre, hate crimes have more than doubled compared to the same time period in 2022.
The steps of the memorial were splattered with red paint and pro-Palestinian messages, which the National Park Service said could take some time to clean up.
According to The Seattle Times, "at least five Jewish institutions in Seattle have received suspicious envelopes, with four containing white powder, since Nov. 3."
Security footage showed at least two people defacing the building. However, the perpetrators put a plastic bag over the camera so the images were unclear, Goldman’s office said.
"Russian online meddling against France reflects a persisting opportunistic and irresponsible strategy of using international crises to create confusion and tensions," France said.
The vandalization came shortly after social media accounts for the 2nd Avenue Deli posted pro-Israel content.
Police have not stated if they believed the two incidents were linked but have asked anyone with information to contact them.
The alleged author of the inscriptions was arrested on the public highway by the local police.
The swastika was covered up with tar a few days after its appearance was reported.
