The fire is said to have started in a nearby factory, and residents reported a large cloud of smoke rising from the area.
The New York City Fire Department reported at the scene that the fire was "six feet by 40 feet long."
The Fire and Rescue Authority said its firefighters were at the scene and were monitoring the gas levels in the area as a result.
At least 30 rockets were fired toward northern Israel communities as far south as Karmiel.
Some of the projectiles were intercepted, while several others fell in the area of the Western Galilee.
Separately, seven firefighting teams were working to control fires that broke out in several open areas near Kibbutz Amiad.
The police added it qualified the incident a suspected "work accident," in which the man, a worker on site, had fallen into the pit.
Israel Fire and Rescue Services have arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said the boys were in grades 4 to 8, putting their ages at about 9 to 13-years-old.
At around 2:30 p.m., the Dan District's 102 emergency center received initial calls about a tree caught on fire in southern Tel Aviv.
