US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that the Brown and MIT shooter, Claudio Neves Valente, entered the US in 2017 through the visa lottery program.

Investigators said Neves-Valente also killed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Nuno Loureiro earlier this week. 

Neighbors said the family living across the street kept to themselves but seemed like any other in the Bonnyrigg suburb, a working-class, well-kept enclave with an ethnically diverse population.

"He's a hero. One hundred percent a hero. Once we saw on social media, he's one hundred percent a hero," the man's cousin, Mustafa al-Ahmad, said. 

Israeli intelligence has warned that Tehran has been targeting Jewish communities abroad, reportedly smuggling weapons and using social media cells to incite violence.

Several more were wounded in the mass shooting targeting the Hanukkah celebration in Australia's largest city, including an Israeli, the Foreign Ministry added.

One person has since been arrested, CBS News quoted District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe as saying. 

Billy Joe Cagle's family called police early on Monday, alerting them that he had posted on social media that he was headed to the airport and was "going to shoot it up,"

The incident occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a small community northwest of Detroit.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in an X/Twitter post that there were multiple injuries and fatalities and that the shooter was deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
