While Hamas has claimed over 200 Palestinians were killed in an operation to rescue four hostages, Israeli estimates leave that number below 100 and charge that many were killed by terrorist fire.
Sullivan did confirm, however, that the US had provided intelligence support to Israel to help it locate the remaining 120 hostages in Gaza, of which eight are US citizens.
While Gantz was scheduled to address the country Saturday night, on June 8, he postponed due to the news of the rescue of four Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity.
"In exchange for them [the four Israeli hostages], your own army killed three of your own captives in the same attack; one of them holds a US citizenship," the Hamas statement said.
The IDF said that the Israel Air Force attacked dozens of military targets as part of the operation, which was carried out after weeks of precise intelligence gathering.
