The Wall Street Journal reported that Russia supplied targeting intelligence to Yemen's Houthi forces for attacks on Western ships in the Red Sea.
The attack comes after the US military earlier this month carried out 15 strikes against targets linked to Iran-aligned Houthi fighters in Yemen.

The Iranian-backed drone programs that proliferated in the Middle East in recent years have become increasingly deadly.
"The UAV force of Yemeni Armed Forces targeted a military target" in the Tel Aviv and Eilat areas, using "four Samad-4 drones," the statement read, claiming the operations had been successful.
The Houthi official claimed that the drone had flown over the Saada airspace as part of a joint American-Israeli campaign.
The IDF struck Yemen' Hodeidah and Ras Issa ports, attacking oil reserves and military supplies, sources told The Jerusalem Post.
The missile was intercepted by the IDF Aerial Defense Array outside of Israeli territory, the IDF said.
