An official, authorized source confirmed on Saturday that the Mossad will directly provide the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) with its assessment of suspicions raised during the October 27 Knesset elections regarding alleged foreign interference.
At this stage, it is unclear whether the assessment includes investigative findings or an expert opinion only.
Reports of Mossad’s potential contribution to the Shin Bet probe originally circulated on Friday, one day after it was announced that the agency was launching an investigation into suspicions that countries like Qatar and Turkey may have tried to influence Arab Israeli voters.
Probe ordered by Central Elections Committee chairman
Central Elections Committee (CEC) chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg ordered the investigation after allegations of foreign funding and election bribery emerged.
On Thursday, the Shin Bet stated that the basis of its investigation so far was based on intelligence collected by the agency, not information supplied by any political party.
The agency also asserted that the inquiry should not be used as a reason to cast suspicion on all Arab voters.
Sarah Ben-Nun, Shir Peret, Corinne Baum, Richard Offenbacher, and Jonah Davidov contributed to this report.
